Purchasing softball balls may sound easy enough, yet the ones used for practice may differ in texture and size as opposed to official game day balls. Some are used for practice only while others are sized up for league competition. Whether you prefer to stay in the field, or you live for your turn at bat, all softball players must have a bat. There are tons of bats to choose from, but hopefully this guide can help you understand the different materials bats are made of and the different game standards when it comes to choosing a bat. Aluminum alloy - Like most products, with higher quality the material you can expect better performance. Also, more affordable aluminum alloy bats are comprised of higher quality matter and last much longer than they have in the past. Technology has made great strides over time as well so you can pick from a variety of different kinds that might support your style, however, technology is helpful, but make sure you pick a bat that feels good in your hands /when you swing it!
Composite - Some bats are 100% composite, while some have composite handles and alloy barrels. Check the description of the bat to find out exactly what it's made up of, as there is no standard formula for composite materials. Again, give it a swing and really grip it to evaluate the feel of the bat.
Wood - Typically, wood bats are made of ash, maple, bamboo, or even maple composite wood. Some players swear by wooden bats, while others despise them. It's all a matter of personal preference.
Slow Pitch - Slow Pitch bats generally are about 34 inches long with varying drop*, but check with your coach to confirm any specific regulations your league may have.
Fast Pitch - Fast Pitch bats cannot be more than 34 inches long, and 2-1/4 inches in diameter. Plus, the allowable drop* is no more than 12.
* The drop is calculated by taking the length of the bat (in inches) and subtracting the weight in ounces.
Youth Bats - Commonly used in Little League, Babe Ruth, Cal Ripkin, Dixie, and Pony.
T-Ball Bats - Ideal for ages 4 - 6.
Barrel size - The Slowpitch and Fastpitch softball bat barrel standard is 2-1/4 inches. Smaller barrels however are lighter and provide an increased swing speed that many players find attractive,
Bat taper - Is the diameter of the bat's handle. Standard bats are tapered 31/32 of an inch. Other bats provide a smaller taper for those who want a light bat, and a larger taper for those who prefer a heavier bat.
Grip - Aluminum bats offer different grip options that vary by manufacturer. Synthetic or Natural leather provide a more secure grip as they are a bit more tacky. Some bats offer cushioned grips that reduce shock significantly.

Today, the surge of interest for softball is steadily increasing. Due to its wide popularity and well-publicized events, many are now into softball mania. Beginners, as well as the professionals do need to train. Beginners should train to learn and eventually master the skills needed in softball. The professional players need it for them to hone more of their skills and to keep at pace with their opponents.
In softball training, one should always do some routines to warm up themselves. This is a must in order to flex their muscles and stay away from any pains like muscle pain or back pains. Running, brisk walking, aerobics, and jogging are some of those routines. With softball training, exercising their arms, feet, and mind is required to wake up all those systems in the body.
While training, we use some tools or equipments in enhancing further our vigor, agility, stamina or speed. For a good softball player, just like any sports, one should have sound body and sound mind. Softball training aids like training bats, swing trainer, softball videos and power gloves and many more are made to help the coaches and the players to strengthen their abilities and serve as a substitute for those softball equipments.
No matter what position are you, one should really starts with batting. You do not know, you might then be doing it at some point of time. Batting aids are used to challenge and force you to correct the problems when it comes to swinging. By using the available training bats, one might begin with a pitching machine that varies the speed and the height of the pitches. With this training, you will learn how to estimate how fast the balls are being pitched and how high are they. You can also try weight rings that will test your endurance and strength.
Then move on to throwing aids. Just like batting, throwing or pitching is also important in softball training. You can use the catch-all nets. These are just simple mesh screens that allow you to pitch at full speed towards a target. You can make use of cans as an alternative if there are no catch-nets. Place the cans in different heights and be it your target. Getting a throwing sleeve will also help by keeping your arm warm and correcting your pitching form as you throw.
Same as other sports, the more you train your softball skills, the better you play. Softball training aids can help you improve your skills to a higher level by correcting your poor form, intensifying the softball drills and most important, allow you to practice by yourself!
Gripping the balls should also be a part of your softball training. Rotate the balls into some of your softball drills and exercises. The heavier balls force you to improve your strength. Plus, training balls are inexpensive ones.
Watch how the professionals play. Get some softball videos. They are great aids for training. By looking at their ways and techniques, one would always benefit from it. Find training videos that would teach how to do it the better way! Consider videoing yourself and compare it to the best players.

Did you know that the first time parents buy gloves for their child, over half of them buy a glove size too big for their young player to handle? Remember, when you try the softball or baseball glove on, make sure the child can make the tip of the glove move by wiggling their fingers. If they can't- go down a size until they can.
Should you invest in catching equipment for your young softball or baseball catcher if they are 10 years old?
Definitely not, kids are growing like weeds at this age and any equipment you buy will be obsolete in a year. Poor fitting catching equipment is a major cause of catching injuries. Make sure, however, your little league or ASA pony team has good fitting catching equipment. Besides, maybe your player won't like catching next year!
I coached youth baseball and softball traveling teams for several years. I've had hundreds of parents come to me for equipment advice whether their player is six or sixteen. I also played college baseball and got scouted by a couple of major league teams. Caring For My Worth Softball Bat - 7 Steps to Make the Most of Your Bat

First of all, check that the bat has a good manufacturer's warranty in case of a problem in the manufacturing process. This very rarely happens, but most maufacturers offer twelve months, while others offer up to two years. These will cover such things as breakage, end-cap damage, loose knob, internal rattle and denting. But if the manufacturer's evaluation suggests your bat '...has been abused, altered in any way or mistreated;...used in a commercial batting cage...or after initial failure', then compensation may well not be forthcoming. Each manufacturer has their own criteria.
Once you're okay with the fact you'll get your money back if there's something inherently wrong with the bat, what can you do to help prolong its life? Well, here are seven tips:
- rotate the bat a quarter-turn each swing.
- limit the bat to individual use. It's your bat, for your use. Doesn't mean your pal can't take a swing now and then. But in serious competition, it's for your use only.
- ensure it's baseball/softball weather: 60 and up - and don't store the bat in extreme temperatures.
- do not clean metal cleats with the bat.
- use regulation, leather-covered softballs - NOT rubber cage balls.
- do not hit waterlogged balls.
- check the bat often for damage.

What to Consider When Choosing Fastpitch Softball Equipment

Before purchasing your Fastpitch softball equipment, here are some tips to consider before making your final selections.
Most companies now are really concentrating on the growing popularity of the game of Fastpitch softball. They have dedicated a great deal of research and development into the proper fit and the demands of the female athlete. In many of the top vendors, such as Mizuno, Easton, Louisville, Ringor and Schutt they have sections of their inventory dedicated specifically to female athletes.
Selecting fastpitch softball bats is pretty straightforward. All bats legal for fastpitch play must be stamped with an official softball on the bat. The one thing to keep in mind is if the bat is a slow-pitch or fastpitch bat. Most but not all slow-pitch bats are legal in fastpitch play, but must have an ASA stamp on the bat.
Choosing catchers gear in the past was simple because the vendors did not make female specific catchers gear. Today you have a wide variety of choices from manufactures who make catchers gear specifically for fastpitch softball. The cut and fit is designed to properly fit a female frame. Keep in mind when looking for gear for your girl’s team.
When looking for fielding gloves the same is true. Top manufactures like Mizuno, Glovesmith, Louisville Slugger, and Rawlings make female specific gloves in their choices. Typically the gloves are a little larger to accommodate a larger ball than a baseball. The pocket and web of these gloves are usually deeper and wider than a baseball glove. The fingerstalls are narrower and shorter to help fit the smaller hand of females. The size range on these gloves usually ranges from 12"-13.5". Most manufactures try to put an adjustable strap on these specific gloves to allow the athlete to fit the glove down on their wrist for a secure fit. Female athletes can keep this choice in mind when selecting a fastpitch fielding glove.
Making a choice on new bating gloves is very similar to a fielding glove. If you are having trouble finding batting glove, the finger stalls and wrist opening are smaller to fit a female hand better.
A few companies Mizuno, Ringor, make female specific softball shoes. These shoes are not as wide as a unisex. Shoes and are developed by top female Olympic athletes to fit and perform to the demands of fastpitch softball players at all levels.

Softball is considered as one of the most popular games in the world. This is played by people of all ages all over the world. Even if it is a game that is hard to play, a lot of people are still enjoying playing softball because it brings tons of challenges.
We are all aware that there are many skills that you need to master first before you can learn to play the game well. They are quite hard and difficult to learn but if you are determined no matter how hard these skills can be, you can surely master them.
